The objective of this project is to develop an advanced system of tomographic diagnosis and to monitor plasma geometry using sensor magnetic SQUIDs for fusion installations such us JET, TJ-II and JET.

The three main technological objectives of this project are:

  • To replace the present diagnostic technology based on "pick-up" coils used to stationary fields measure.
  • To develop a more accurate tomographic reconstruction system.
  • To avoid the damage caused by nuclear radiation on these magnetic diagnosis.

The developed technology detects, through SQUID sensors, the poloidal magnetic field generated by the plasma. The data obtained is processed by Bayesian reconstruction algorithms which infer plasma position and its shape.
The information is processed on-line providing the control system of fusion reactor with the necessary parameters.

In ITER, there is a lack of magnetic sensor in steady-state and this project wants to solve this problem.
